Finding shelf stable snacks for traveling that have good ingredients can sometimes be hard. Also eating enough protein while traveling can be troublesome too. I travel quite a bit so I’ve listed out my favorite healthier snack options below!
Meat sticks
Paleovalley meat sticks are my favorite meat sticks, and I’ve tried them all! I’ve chosen these over the most popular brand at Costco for the last few years. They are higher quality and I like the flavors better – summer sausage, original, and garlic summer sausage are my faves! Save 50% with my link!
Why I prefer Paleo Valley:
- meat raised in the USA (other popular brands are not)
- grass fed & finished
- grain, gluten, soy & preservative free
- 100% delicious

Bone Broth Powder
Bone broth powder is a game changer for a snack! It is low calorie and high protein. These are the individual ones I use for travel and this is the big bag I use when I’m at home. Both have really great flavor! You can also add this powder to dinner dishes like rice to add flavor and nutrients for yourself and your kids.

Protein Powder
Individual packs of protein are an easy way to get 30 grams of protein pretty quickly (if you drink it with milk). Usually you can find milk at the airport or a gas station, but if you can’t, most of Just Ingredients proteins are 20-24g so still a great amount! I love getting the Just Ingredients sample pack for the variety of flavors.

Fruit Snacks & Organic Candy
All natural fruit snacks are always in my snack bag. I like to pair my carbohydrates with protein so I’ll usually have them together. I like that there are no dyes in these. You can find this brand at Costco often too. Another option is the Black Forest gummy bears. You can find these at Costco.
Organic candy is something I always have when I travel. It’s really hard to find quality candy in the airport or a gas station so I just bring my own. I like that this brand tastes great, doesn’t have dyes and is organic. I love everything I’ve tried from the Yum Earth brand.

Olives
I’ll probably lose some of you on this one… I like having olives for a snack! They are a great salty snack with healthy fats, antioxidants and no refrigeration necessary!

Electrolytes
The last thing really isn’t a ‘healthy snack’ but one thing I never travel without is electrolytes. I’m not used to drinking city water so sometimes airport water can taste really bad to me, so I use electrolytes to cover up the flavor. Also, when I travel to warm climates and sweat a lot, electrolytes are helpful for replacing nutrients.
I drink these often so I have a couple of favorite kids:
- Redmond relyte (code HAPPYHOME). My favorite relyte flavors are strawberry lemonade, watermelon lime, and mango!
- Just Ingredients (code HAPPYHOME). I like guava mango the best but they only have orange pineapple, mango lemonade, and lemon lime in the travel packs.
- Buoy Electrolytes are unflavored and can go in any drink. They are a great option if you want to avoid sweeteners.

I hope this gives you some ideas of healthier snacks for traveling! Let me know in the comments if you would add anything to this list!
